Cupcakes at The Hummingbird Bakery
Cupcakes can be simple, extravegant, elegant or fun, subtle or colourful. Perhaps that's their secret to keeping us interested. We want them on an ordinary day and cannot be without them for a special occassion. Cupcakes are everything and more. We often bake cupcakes at home, we experiment with different flavours, icing and have so much fun decorating them. But, sometimes you just need a super duper specially made cupcake.
Every now and then I take the girls out to enjoy a cupcake. Living in central London means that we are spoilt for choice, there are bakeries specialising in cupcakes popping up everywhere. One of our favourites is The Hummingbird Bakery. We visit the one on Portobello Road the most often becuase it's a five minute walk from home. It's not the only reason. It's the original bakery and although there are many others that have opened since the Notting Hill branch is my little favourite. Don't visit and expect comfy seating, this is not in the concept of their business it seems, but, go with the expectation of finding a sweet little bakery filled with all sorts of delightful cupcakes, traybakes, cheesecakes, sliced rainbow layer cakes amongst other sorts of pretty deliciousness. I'm sure the intention is to enjoy them at home or wandering down Portobello soaking in the atmosphere as you do. Their display is quite breathtaking, it always has my girls in awe and makes their indecisive little minds even more difficult to make up. Which by the way, in this situation, is a good thing.
Oh, and they do seasonal so well. The Christmas cupcakes are wonderful.
